Roisin Mc Sherry
BSc
From the moment she finished her Leaving Certificate, Roisin Mc Sherry knew that she wanted to work with horses. She made this wish a reality through the Equine Science programme at UL. Roisin was one of the first students to graduate from the BSc in Equine Science at UL. This degree programme was developed to equip graduates in the disciplines of Equine Science, Equitation and Equine Business Management. Today, in her work as an equine nutritionist in Kildare, Roisin is able to apply the knowledge she acquired from her degree.
While a student at UL, Roisin had an opportunity to sample her chosen career by working on Cooperative Education placement with Winfields, a large stud farm in Canada. On the farm her skills were tested to the full as she carried out a number of stud farm duties. She also got the opportunity to work for a few months with Arlington International racecourse in Chicago, USA, where she applied herself to the marketing and administration end of the horse industry.
After graduation Roisin went to work as an equine nutritionist with TRM in Newbridge, County Kildare. TRM develop and supply specialist feed products for the equine industry, and Roisin is involved in monitoring the quality of existing products and developing new improved nutritional products. She also works in technical support to the sales and marketing section of the company. Roisin says that she loves being involved in a business that is constantly evolving. She intends to stay in the area of equine nutrition and would like to develop a number of new products that would improve nutrition in the horse industry.
"CoOp played a significant role in helping me get my present position with TRM. My employer liked the fact that I had gained hands on experience with horses both at a stud farm and in marketing".
