Educating through the Internet

The growth of the internet has spawned a revolution in computer-based training, which can be delivered to students all over the world, literally at the click of a button. Caroline Hickey was one of the first students to graduate from the Languages & Computing degree programme at UL. This degree was developed to bridge the gap between computer programming and language acquisition and has proven to be ideally suited to the emerging field of internet education.

Caroline chose this degree because she was interested in French at school and the combination of languages and computers in a single course was very appealing. While a student at UL Caroline had an opportunity to experiment with her chosen career, working with an international organisation where her skills were tested to the full. "Coop played a significant role in helping me choose a career. The technical skills that I acquired while I was working with ISOCOR in Dublin have helped me greatly in my career, and have given me experience in an area that I have worked in since leaving college."

Now Caroline works as an Internet based course designer with Prime Learning in the National Technological Park, Limerick. Prime Learning has rapidly grown to become one of the many innovative and exciting companies in the field. While just about any course can be converted for web based delivery, PrimeLearning has specialised in the development of Business and professional skills packages. Her work involves planning and designing web-based training courses for national and international clients. When developed, the contracting clients deliver these courses to their students or trainees via the internet. Caroline sees her future within the expanding area of course design for web based learning, building her career in this exciting new field.
