Donal Bermingham
BEng
Long before he came to UL, Donal Bermingham had an interest in engineering. A native of the Midlands, Donal studied Engineering as a Leaving Certificate subject. He was keen to stay near home for his third level education and he registered for a Diploma in Mechanical/ Manufacturing Engineering at Athlone Institute of Technology. Having graduated with distinction, Donal applied successfully for a transfer to the University of Limerick's degree in Production Engineering.
He graduated in 1996 and obtained his first engineering position with Tyco Medical in Tullamore, Co Offaly. In his role as a Process Engineer, Donal was responsible for improving the efficiency of the manufacturing system. He subsequently moved to MedTech, a healthcare company based in Clara, Co. Offaly. MedTech produces medical devices for carrying out minimal invasive surgery. Donal's work is in the area of research and development where he manages complete projects through from idea-generation stage, through to prototype design, product commercialisation and market release. He says that his current job is very relevant to his Production Engineering degree.
In 1999 Donal was awarded the Techstart Technologist of the Year and is currently studying for a Masters in Project Management at UL.
"I chose to study at UL, because it offered me a chance to graduate from a well recognised university which produces top quality engineering graduates."
