Career support for students with disabilities

What if I have a diverse approach to reading, writing or completing application material, including my CV?

Many people with learning difficulties are hesitant to discuss their situation with the Careers Service. Learning difficulties often lower an individual's self-confidence, and can lead them to underestimate their abilities when considering their career options.

Some of the support services available to help you prepare your CV include the following:

  • Diagrams and flowcharts to plan your CV
  • Audio and video material on 'CV Writing' and 'Making Effective Applications'
  • A brochure on the range of computerised Careers Advice Material. This brochure is available in audio format on CD Rom. Copies of the CD are available from the Careers Support Service.
  • Individual CV workshops are available by appointment. For further information, check the Careers Website or call to the Careers Service at E0005 and make an appointment to meet an advisor
  • The Career Service links with the Dyslexia Support Service to assist students at all stages of career planning, including applications and CVs, and preparing for aptitude and psychometric testing.
  • To discover the full range of services and resources that are available to you through the Careers Service, you should arrange for a staff member to 'walk you through' the facility.

Students with disabilities should have early and frequent contact with the Careers Service. The Careers Support Service was set up to address the individual and diverse needs of students with disabilities. Click on Career Appointments to arrange a meeting.
