Press Play to Begin

The whole notion of planning your career might be intimidating. It is easier to take it in small steps. Begin by asking:

  • What services are available through the Careers Service?
  • Can I access the type of information that I need to begin to build a career plan?

Broadly speaking, the work of the Careers Service extends across three key areas:

  1. Careers Advice
  2. Careers Resources
  3. Careers Events

The Careers Guide is an annual publication that outlines in detail the services that are available within each of these three areas. Copies are available from the Careers Service. It is also available in audio format on CD from the Careers Support Service.

There are many resources available to help you plan your career. Consider the following steps and think 'ABILITY'

  • Assess yourself and your abilities.
  • Become aware of your options.
  • Identify and act on your decisions
  • Look at what employers want.
  • Investigate application and interview procedures.
  • Think about the postgraduate route.
  • Your abilities are the key selling point.

For many students on-line resources offer the most accessible help. The following are invaluable on-line resources for career planning.

You should contact the Disability Liaison Office to ensure that the necessary assistive technology is available to access careers information. Arrange to meet with a Careers Advisor to discuss your career options.

Students with disabilities should have early and frequent contact with the Careers Service. The Careers Support Service was set up to address the individual and diverse needs of students with disabilities. Click on Career Appointments to arrange a meeting.
