Students enrolled on the undergraduate teaching degrees complete two Teaching practice assignments whilst those enrolled on the Graduate Diplomas undertake one assignment. Teaching practice is formally graded on an incremental scale and an honours grade is a prerequisite for an overall honours degree. The academic assessment of students on teaching practice is therefore a critical activity and is at the core of the teaching practice process.
The responsibilities of the CECD with regard to TP relate to the administration of the following:
- Collection of student information with regard to degree, and preferred placement
locations
- Liaison with a network of schools for the placement of students
- Assignment of students to appropriate schools
- Assignment of tutors in consultation with heads of the academic departments
- Recording information regarding tutorial and grading of placements as the information comes to hand
- Recording of grades
- Supporting the grading process
- Supporting the grade appeals process
As the programme is formally assessed on an incremental scale, it requires a placement rate of 100%.
