The Importance of your CV

Your CV contains a short but full account of your life to date. It covers aspects such as your:

  • educational background
  • work experience
  • skills
  • achievements
  • interests

The purpose of your CV is to attract the attention of CoOp employers. A well-prepared CV increases your chances of being called for interview and, in turn, being offered a CoOp placement.

Writing your CV

Writing your CV is the first step to finding your CoOp job. At this stage in your college life, there will be plenty of other demands on you. Therefore, you should avoid the pressure of compiling a last minute CV. Preparing and writing a CV takes time, so you should plan its preparation carefully and well in advance.

All students going on CoOp must complete the UL CoOp CV, which you can access at the Online CoOp CV

(If you are going on an international placement, you will have to submit a cover letter as well as a country-specific CV.)

Helpful Hints for Completing the Online CV

  • Keep it simple and concise
  • Use action words
  • For maximum impact, place the most relevant information at the beginning
  • Allocate space according to the importance of the information
  • Check that spelling and punctuation are correct
