ABOUT UL

Clubs and Societies

The University experience is a terrific chapter in anyone’s life and sometimes it is not until you have left the University and gone into the workplace that the full impact of the freedoms and opportunities are really appreciated… or regretted, if you let them pass you by. For some people, University is very much a second chance to do things you may have skipped over in secondary school; the fact that you may not have exploited this opportunity in a previous third level experience, or a maybe just a brand new challenge. Whatever the reason, there are some really cool opportunities on your doorstep as part of life in this huge social network known affectionately in UL as “Clubs and Socs”.

Currently there are over 6000 people signed up to the membership books of the 56 Clubs & Societies on the University of Limerick Campus.

The Clubs & Societies office is a fully resourced working office to complement these voluntary groups and is located upstairs in the Student Centre. Within the Student Centre there are;

  • Dedicated meeting rooms for Clubs and Societies
  • Photographic Society darkroom, a sound proofed Music Society room and a Computer society room (Skynet) complete with hub and hardware
  • We also provide a 15 seat Ford Transit Mini Bus and a Mercedes Sprinter 7 seat mini bus for equipment transport and a Toyota Land Cruiser – incidentally we set aside €4000 annually for driver proficiency training, lesson and tests for members willing to offer the service to their particular club or society
  • Clubs & Societies creative and innovative thinking delivered a €5.1M Boathouse of which €4.3 was directly contributed by the students; it houses the first indoor powered rowing tank in Ireland and is home to our Rowing, Kayak, and Sub Aqua and Mountain bike clubs.
  • Two full time staff dedicated to Clubs & Societies

If you want that added value to your UL experience maybe you have the skills set and enthusiasm as a person to be the next generation of the Clubs & Society Social Network?
How much fun would it be to experience :
Skydiving in France?
Sub Aqua Diving in Egypt?
Kayaking in Montenegro?
Caving in Yorkshire and mountaineering in Scotland?
Debating in the UK, Istanbul, Estonia, Amsterdam?
Windsurfing in Spain?
Experience Spanish or German Architecture with the Society of Architecture?
Snowboarding in Italy, Ultimate Frisbee in the Netherlands....?
You get the picture…
