President's Welcome

Having come this far, you are ready for a journey of exploration and learning that will open up before you many new possibilities and new horizons. In the pages that follow we have sought to provide you with information about course offerings, research opportunities and life beyond the classroom that we think you will need in order to make an informed choice about where you would like to spend your undergraduate years.

The University of Limerick is a university with a global reputation, committed to the highest standards of excellence in all our academic endeavours. Our inspiring professors and faculty are dedicated teachers in their fields and global leaders in research and scholarship. Studying at UL is a chance in a lifetime for personal development in the broadest sense. UL has many diverse societies and clubs, which contribute much to the life and fabric of the University and the wider community.

Our students consistently rate us highly for teaching and facilities. In addition, independent assessors have awarded us with a five-star ranking for innovation, internationalisation, engagement, teaching and, importantly, employability. UL graduates have enjoyed exceptional employment prospects, even during times of economic challenge. UL's graduate employment rate is consistently higher than the national average. This is what we like to call the UL Edge and it is something of which this University is very proud.

We are mindful that third-level education can be daunting and we have in place an impressive welcome calendar of events including the 'First Seven Weeks Programme'. The first of its kind in Ireland, its aim is to ensure your university experience gets off to the very best start. UL is truly an international institution with over 2,500 international students from over 100 countries, making this a very cosmopolitan campus. Our Cooperative Education programme - one of the largest in Europe - works with local, national and international partners to provide work experiences that will lay a foundation for future employment. In addition, the opportunities to study abroad at some of the world's top universities give UL students an international education that prepares them to take their place in the global society.

UL also offers you an easy pathway to further study, with a broad range of postgraduate programmes to enhance your employability still further. We hope that you will choose to join us at UL and that after your time here you will join the ranks of our alumni whose aspirations have been heightened and whose minds have been broadened. As a student you feel a great sense of history, of walking in the footsteps of successful graduates, many of whom are helping shape the history and the future of Ireland and the wider world.

With warm regards,

Professor Des Fitzgerald
