Professor Sarah Moore, B.A., D.B.S., M.B.S. (NUI), MIITD, Ph.D (Cranfield)

Associate Vice President Academic

 

Professor Moore is the Associate Vice President Academic at the University of Limerick. Her research interests include Learning orientations and environments in work and education, gender in education, cognitive style, student retention in third level environments, professional development in academia, teaching innovation and diversity awareness and management.

She is responsible for the continued development of teaching and learning strategies at the University of Limerick, and is Strand leader of the Shannon consortium’s teaching and learning strategy. She regularly publishes books and journal articles in the areas of academic practice, student development, and learning dynamics. She has recently joined the UK’s SEDA papers committee, acts as external advisor to the teaching grants committee at University College Dublin, is a member of the Irish Institute of Training and Development and an appointed member of the Higher Education Authority.

Maura Murphy B.A. MPhil (Strathclyde)

Manager

 

Maura is the Manager of the Centre for Teaching and Learning and in her role works closely with faculty members, heads of departments and other key groups to champion and support excellence, innovation and enhancements in teaching and learning activities within UL and throughout the sector. She is dedicated to heightening the profile and value of teaching activities, by providing support advice and recognising and facilitating all those involved in teaching and learning in UL.

 

Among her key areas of expertise are learning preferences analysis, student coaching and essay writing. She is currently engaged in a research project that explores the essay writing experiences of first-year students. She is a qualified MBTI and Firo-B Practitioner and regularly presents learning styles, active learning and critical thinking workshops to students across the Shannon Consortium. She is co-author of ‘How to be a Student’, and The Ultimate Study Skills Handbook both published by the Open University Press.

Dr. Mary Fitzpatrick B.B.S., G.D.E., MCIPD., M.B.S., Ph.D (UL)

Regional Teaching and Learning Advocate

 

Mary is the Regional Teaching and Learning Advocate in the Centre for Teaching and Learning. Her key area of expertise is the professional development of teaching and learning among academics. Her main areas of responsibility include supporting faculty through key initiatives which help academic development such as teaching portfolios, peer observation and the regional excellence in teaching award.

 

She is currently leading the Regional Teaching Award project in the Shannon Consortia teaching and learning strategy. She has worked in industry as a management consultant and brought this expertise to her teaching at the Kemmy Business School. She completed her Ph.D in the area of learning and inter-organisational networks. She is a Chartered Member of the CIPD and acts as an external moderator to some of their registered centres.

Dr. Angélica Rísquez B.A. (Psych), M.B.S. (UL), PhD (UNED)

Teaching Innovation and Enhancement Advisor

 

Angelica Risquez promotes teaching innovation and enhancement at the university, from need assessment to implementation evaluation, with a strong emphasis in technology enhanced learning. She co-manages the student evaluation of teaching system (SET), by providing technical and research expertise, and supervises the production of departmental quality reports. She is involved in investigating and piloting new tools for technology enhanced learning, providing training and pedagogical advice on the use of the learning management system and plagiarism prevention tools. Additional responsibilities include representation on national and international educational communities (EDIN, ILTA), and design and delivery of teaching. She is also involved in the transition programme First Seven Weeks. In relation to this, her PhD research is on electronic peer student mentoring for transition into university.

Karen McGrath B.A. (Law & Business)

Senior Administrator, CTL

 

Karen is the Senior Administrator in the Centre for Teaching and Learning. She graduated with a BA in Business and Legal Studies from Waterford Institute of Technology and went on to become a CEDR accredited mediator.

Karen spent 5 years working as Manger of Dispute Resolution Services for CEDR in the UK and was involved in many high profile dispute resolutions. Karen returned to Ireland in 2004 and joined UL. Karen has worked in supporting roles in both the Marketing and Procurement Sections before joining The Centre for Teaching and Learning in 2009.

Dr. Íde O’Sullivan B.A., M.A., Ph.D.

Research Officer, Regional Writing Centre

 

Íde is a Research Officer at Ireland’s first Regional Writing Centre at the University of Limerick, serving the institutions in the Shannon Consortium. Íde is involved in the design, delivery and evaluation of writing-support interventions, including teaching academic writing at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, grounding writing centre initiatives in good practice and sound theory.

Lawrence Cleary B.A., M.A.

Research Officer, Regional Writing Centre

 

Lawrence is a Research Officer in the University of Limerick’s Regional Writing Centre. Lawrence assists staff and students with their efforts to become better writers. Alongside his colleague, Íde O’Sullivan, Lawrence designs, facilitates and evaluates writing support initiatives in UL and throughout the Shannon region. Lawrence also works to develop tutors and tutor training and to advance faculty development of student writing and research.

Ann is a Research Officer and works with the National Digital Learning Repository (NDLR), at the Centre for Teaching and Learning, University of Limerick. Yvonne works with the National Digital Learning Resources (NDLR) service, Centre for Teaching and Learning, University of Limerick. Yvonne also teaches on the BA (Joint Honours) and tutors in the Regional Writing Centre at the University of Limerick. Yvonne has previously worked as a teaching assistant in Technical Communication. Yvonne is currently undertaking PhD study in the area of ICT Policy in Higher Education Teaching and Learning.

Aisling is the PR coordinator and is tasked with spreading the great word of the NDLR. Aisling also resides at the Centre for Teaching and Learning, University of Limerick. Aisling's primary role is to inform people about the NDLR, promote the use of the diverse range of resources available within the NDLR and also encourage new contributions.

 

Aisling continues to support the academic community through the organising of events of interest, broadcasting of new and interesting resources, and regular communication of helpful and relevant information.
