| Module
Descriptions |
DN5106
Dance appreciation/Reading Dancing This module aims to develop your perception of dance through observation and analysis of dance works. It focuses on a range of twentieth century choreographers to extend your understanding of styles, conventions and practices. The study of concepts related to artistic and aesthetic education will underpin your planning of activities to promote dance appreciation in education contexts. DN5107 Cultural Studies This module will provide you with an understanding of the historical and cultural influences that have shaped growth and development of contemporary dance. The focus here is on the changing contexts of choreographic practice in twentieth century dance. Topics will include study of ways in which dance relates to cultural issues such as race, age and gender. DN5108 / DN5109 Research Methods and Project Proposal These modules enable you to investigate areas of dance which may be related to your workplace based practice or other areas of dance interest. They support you in working your way through a systematic dance issue or a problem solving process in which you identify particular issues of practice with a view to improving them. You will produce a report that gives an account of this process, showing also that you can relate your work to the theoretical issues that you will study as part of the modules. Your action research project encourages you to work with others and to show that you understand the development of your own learning as you reflect on your actions and study.
