 Research opportunities with the IRCSET

Post-graduate research (for MEng and PhD degrees)

There exist opportunities for a MEng and PhD degree in Mechanical or Aeronautical Engineering in subjects related to polymers and composite materials (experimental, modelling) within the framework of the IRCSET post-graduate programme (www.ircset.ie). The call is advertised twice a year (January and May), and a highly-motivated student wishing to pursue her/his study for higher degree in composites engineering is requested to contact a relevant member of the CRC team.

Examples of possible topics for MEng/PhD theses are:

• Aircraft design with composite materials (Contact: Trevor Young)   
• Molecular modelling of nanocomposites (Contact: Michael McCarthy)
• Multi-scale modelling of deformation/damage of composite materials/polymer nanocomposites (Contact: Michael McCarthy, Noel O'Dowd, Conor McCarthy, Lukasz Figiel)
• Manufacturing of thermoplastic composites for wind turbine blades (Contact: Walter Stanley)
• Structure/morphology-property relationships in polymers and polymer nanocomposites (Contact: Martin Buggy, Lukasz Figiel)

Post-doctoral research

Post-Doc opportunities exist within the post-doctoral programme of the IRCSET (www.ircset.ie). Highly qualified candidates are requested to contact a relevant member of the CRC team. The call for the post-doctoral fellowships is advertised once per year (October/November).
