‘Spoken Fluency Revisited’ Lecture

CALS (The Centre for Applied Language Studies) is pleased to announce a guest lecture: Spoken Fluency Revisited by Professor Michael McCarthy, Adjunct Professor, School of Languages, Literature, Culture and Communication.

Thursday 23rd February 2012 at 15h00-16h00 [Room TBA]

Abstract: What is fluency in speaking? What does it mean to say someone speaks a language fluently? Traditional accounts of fluency fail to take into account the interactive dimension and the need to maintain a smooth flow of talk across a conversation. Using corpus evidence, we look at how native speakers and learners achieve conversational ‘flow’.

All are welcome!
