WHY JOURNALISM?
The BA in Journalism and New Media and the Grad.Dip./MA in Journalism programmes are designed to enable students to develop and combine high-level journalistic writing skills and professional practices for a broad range of media with an in-depth understanding of the interaction between media, language and culture.
BY STUDYING JOURNALISM YOU WILL:
- Learn the generic skills vital to all journalists: News reporting; feature writing; shorthand; magazine journalism; investigative reporting; interviewing; media law
- Learn to apply these skills to print and new media.
- Gain the experience of working in a team to produce an on-campus newspaper/magazine.
- Learn to apply research skills to investigative and analytical journalism.
- Develop an understanding of sociology of the media, cultural studies, media audiences and an ability to analyse media discourse.
- Develop a portfolio of work that can be presented to future employers.
