WHY JOURNALISM?

The BA in Journalism and New Media and the Grad.Dip./MA in Journalism programmes are designed to enable students to develop and combine high-level journalistic writing skills and professional practices for a broad range of media with an in-depth understanding of the interaction between media, language and culture.

BY STUDYING JOURNALISM YOU WILL:

  • Learn the generic skills vital to all journalists: News reporting; feature writing; shorthand; magazine journalism; investigative reporting; interviewing; media law
  • Learn to apply these skills to print and new media.
  • Gain the experience of working in a team to produce an on-campus newspaper/magazine.
  • Learn to apply research skills to investigative and analytical journalism.
  • Develop an understanding of sociology of the media, cultural studies, media audiences and an ability to analyse media discourse.
  • Develop a portfolio of work that can be presented to future employers.
