SIF 1
Taking the student experience as a starting point, under the Shannon Consortium, SIF 1 application for funding to the HEA, a six-stage student lifecycle model was presented as follows:
- Aspiration raising
- Pre-entry activities
- Selection and admissions
- Moving through first year
- Supports throughout programmes of study
- Progression and employability
A very significant landmark was achieved in 2006 with the award of more than 9.6 million to the University of Limerick and its partners in the Shannon Consortium (Limerick Institute of Technology - LIT; Institute of Technology Tralee - ITT; and Mary Immaculate College Limerick - MIC for its first Strategic Innovation Fund (SIF) submission to the Higher Education Authority (HEA) The University of Limerick's SIF proposal comprises three projects which are firmly based within the University's strategy and reflect the key principles and objectives of the SIF. The projects are innovative and demonstrate strong, substantive collaboration. They support the delivery of core activities and provide the basis for further developments in UL and in the collaborating institutions.
The innovative character of the consortium SIF 1 proposal lies in the adoption of the integrated six-stage model, the regional co-ordination and streamlining of activities along these stages, and the creation of a much enhanced service that will lead to wider participation, retention and completion in 3rd and 4th level. ...READ MORE. »
SIF 2
The SIF 2 award of €12.5 million comprises three areas of activity which are rooted in the University's strategy and reflect key objectives of SIF. The projects are innovative, they involve substantial collaboration, and they support the delivery of core activities and will shape future development in UL and its partners. The strategic scope of Shannon Consortium activity proposed under SIF Cycle 2 builds on many of the achievements outlined in Cycle I. As in Cycle 1, UL will be the contact institution for overall co-ordination, with the management of projects being shared amongst the partners.
