Chairman’s Address (Ciaran O’Loughlin)
Outgoing chairman Ciarain O’Loughlin started by looking back at the ups and downs of the club in the past year both on an doff of the playing field. The success of the ‘Freshers A’ team in the Munster Championship, the success that was the new ‘Fresher B’ team, the success of the Fitzgibbon team in the earlier stages of the year but mainly the appointment of GAA Development Officer John Kelleher and Ger Cunningham as the Fresher Manager.
The defeat of the Fitzgibbon Team in the quarterfinal, the loss of the Intermediate All Ireland crown and the unfortunate defeat of the Freshers in the All-Ireland leaque.
Ciaran recognised the hard work done by all of the officers involved with the club. He also paid tribute to all of the players in the club for the efforts both on and off the field.
Ciaran addressed the issue of scholarships and bursaries and also the issue of the home-page on the Internet of the Hurling Club.
The issue of jerseys was also addressed with great appreciation shown to John Lenihan of Lenmac for his sponsorship. Ciaran made the point that the club had no other choice but to sell all three sets of Jerseys in order to get the club out of its debt.
To conclude, Ciaran wished the club the best of luck in the future and also pointed out how it was a privilege for him to be involved with the club.
Secretary’s Report
Club secretary Damien Garrihy gave a detailed account of the endeavors of each Hurling team in the college. Starting with the Fitzgibbon team and finishing with the ‘Fresher B’ team. He gave a report on their victories and losses.
Damien then addressed matters off the pitch. The disappointment of the lotto, the contract with O’Neills and the Sports Department.
Damien acknowledged the hard work done by John Kelleher and Ciaran O’Loughlin and thanked John Lenihan for his generous sponsorship and help.
Damien concluded by wishing the Club the best of luck in the future and by expressing how much enjoyment he had received from the game of hurling in UL.
Treasurer’s Report
Eoin Sheedy started by saying that the club was almost £1,000 in debt. The club had broken even of this year but overall was still in debt.
Eoin pointed out the disappointment that was the lotto which did make £900 for the club but such a small amount for such a big effort was the point being made.
A sheet containing all of the accounts of the Hurling Club was given to each of the members present and duly explained dealing with inquiries from the members at the same time. Weak points, for example, the lotto and strong points, for example, sponsorship were pointed out.
Eoin pointed out that with a bit more effort from the players themselves, the club could get itself out of debt.
