A good sign for the future of UL Hurling this year was the establishment of a second freshers team this year. The B team was a great team to the club as it showed the strength in depth of hurling in the University. It also provided very adequate back-up to our "A" side. overall , it was a good year for our freshers and we must ensure that this group of lads stay together and work even harder in the future than they did this year.

The dedication shown by both teams to matches and training was unquestionable. As is the case other clubs in the college, a number of factors worked against us. The year did end on a high note when UL retained the Munster Freshers Championship with a decisive win over league champions W.I.T.

A total of 125 first years attended trials for two fresher teams back in October, Within two to three weeks, this had been narrowed down to approximately sixty, which made up two strong panels. Our aim for the year was to win an All-Ireland league title. We did come close to achieving this, but make sure for our future freshers teams that we are fully prepared for all competitions. We are already looking forward to next year.
