Article for An Focal, Issue 2, by K Quinn

First of all,  well done to all who have impressed in recent trials and made the panels for the various teams.   This is a very special year for hurling in UL   -    our 25th anniversary.    It's important that we do well this year.  When one considers the facilities, the back-up, the personnel, the players we have at our disposal one must wonder why our achievements on the field don't match our resources off the field.   Just look around boys,  what more do we need ??   The trophies to be handed to us on a silver-plate, just like everything else?  I know the efforts and sacrifices that everyone has put in - that has to be applauded and indeed respected.   This, however, is a new season.   This is our season, our team, our time.   We have a couple of months.   Everyone must make that extra effort and come March we can look back with pride.   So to all Seniors, Intermediates and Freshers, come next March we will be in the position to say - "We gave it hell !!"  And if we win or lose, we will end the season with respect.
Congratulations to John Cormican  Seamus Chalke, Patsy Cahill, Fergal Kenzie and the great James Butler who were on the victorious Limerick Intermediate team.  Mr Cormican, the Limerick captain, was an outstanding member of last years Fitzgibbon but has since joined the working world.
Anyway, for all Galway people  and indeed Celtic supporters, go to D***ns bar in town where you are likely to hear the finest ever rendition  of "The Fields of Athenry" - sang by The ****. (To be revealed later).  Any of you notice how the admission  costs to disco's have rocketed lately?? - must be that Celtic Tiger.
