Karl's Column - D'Unbeatables!!!
D’UNBEATABLES!!!
On behalf of the Hurling
Club I would like to make a few announcements for you all here now today.
First and foremost and most important of all is the bit of fund-raising
going on by the club, here at the moment. We are selling tickets
at a cost price of £1.00. I know Christmas is coming
and every few pounds are needed but we’re talking about the future of our
little club here, today. Prices are mouth-watering, fifteen in all
ranging from A LOT OF MONEY to a little bit of money.
There are over fifteen prizes altogether, so get out there and do your
bit for the sake of the club. Tickets can be bought from any club
member or any member of our committee.
Secondly,
on behalf of the club I would like to extend a warm thanks to the eight
lads who got up out of their beds on a cold Wednesday morning for a trip
to the big city. Now I appreciate the fact that a trip to Dublin
is daunting - over 15 hours I hear, but Jasus lads wouldn’t the rest of
ye get out of bed and show some bit of pride in yourselves, your club,
your families and your counties and your country and your fellow students
and the people who died so that the ancient art of Cuchullan may remain
alive. We’ll be discussing the ramifications of this at our next
committee meeting.
Thirdly, on behalf of the club,
our teams are doing great altogether. The Fresher’s had a merited
win over ITT. Such was the performance of the team (0-21
to 0-6) - a real team performance, I feel that it is unfair to mention
any names at this time . The Fresher B’s are doing mighty altogether…..fair
play to ye lads….shove it up to them. Our Intermediates,
always the pride and joy of our club haven’t had a game so far but are
flying in training (all that buckfast). As for the stars, the heroes,
the legends, the men and the Gods of the Senior team (who hope to get to
Templemore for this years Fitzgibbon…maybe we’ll meet the Guards again
lads, yippee!!), well they haven’t had a game at the time of going to print,
but will have had one by the time you read this. Scholarship Application
forms are now available from the GAA office or admissions so any of you
freshers who think ye have the stuff to do it …well get out there and do
it.
I haven’t much more
to say here now today only to make a few clarifications about last weeks
article. A few small things were brought to my attention. Well
I tell you they weren’t small for the people involved. I omitted
to mention the name of Noel Madden who “turned” the game for Limerick in
the Intermediate Hurling Championship against Cork back in the wet Summer
of ’98. Also, I mentioned that *** G*nt sang the Fields of
Athenry in Dolans - I was mistaken and I apologise for my lack of research….it
was in Fact in Moby Dicks where he sang the song( thanks to Brendan for
pointing that out to me). Without further ado I’d like to hand
ye over to the Chairman of the club who has a few ……..
