UL had a convincing opening game victory of their league campaign yesterday 12th October. This game was played was played on pitch one and preceded the
Fitzgibbon fixture. This win set the tone of the day and there were a number of impressive individual displays. UL had a commanding lead of 1-9 to 0-2 at half time
having played with the aid of the breeze. David Breenan accounted for 1-3 of this total which included a goal from a twenty five yard free. Paul McNamara
landed two long range frees while UL had further scores from John Breen, Mattie Foley, Eoin Russell and Andrew O Connell.
Waterford mounted a comeback of sorts in the second half however the foundations for the victory were well and truly laid during the opening half hour.
Two frees from Brennan a brace from lively corner forward O Connell and a point from substitute John Maher rounded of the scoring for UL. There were
solid performances from Liam Devane, James Heffernen and Paul McNamara at the back while upfront David Brennan, Andy O Connell and in particular
Damien Bergin were to the fore.
