University of Limerick Vs Garda Training College
Wed. 18th of February (Wed. Week 1)
at 2.30pm Venue ULGAA Pitch
A large crowd is expected for the biggest
sporting event on the college calendar, the Fitzgibbon cup quarter final against the Garda Training College.
UL sponsored by Lenmac Mechanical Services were not completely convincing in the recent game against Mary
Immaculate training college , and suffered defeat at the hands of WIT in the Higher Education league semi-final,
so all eyes are focused on the up and coming match against the Guards. This game has all the ingredients to
be a cracking contest between two teams who have an abundance of forward talent . UL's scoring powercoming from
Clare's David Forde , Wexford's Rory McCarthy , Ken O'Shea Kilkenny , and Fergal Healy and Rory Gantley from Galway.
The Guards have real talent in their forwards and mid field with Andy Moloney, Denis Byrne and Damien Cleere
from the Kilkenny senior team. Ronan O'Hara and Ollie Baker from Clare. UL will welcome back full back and
captain Michael Healy for this game after suffering a hamstring injury recently, while the loss of Kilkenny's
Tom Hickey through suspension is a blow. It is expected that the team with the backs that cope best will come
out on top in what is expected to be physical contest. This match being played in Limerick may give UL the
advantage , however it is too close to call and may come down to a point or two either way. Home support
in these matches is always a vital element to success and next Wed. is no exception, so your support is
needed and will be greatly appreciated. So come out and support your college team.Extra time will be played
if necessary, Programmes will be available and admission is free!
