Basics Of Orthographic Projection
As I mentioned earlier Orthographic Projection involves us seeing an object in 2D. To do this we need to look at 90 degrees to a face of the object. Watch the animation below to see how this is done.

When we draw an Orthographic view of the front of an object it is called a ELEVATION.
When choosing which face to use as the Elevation you choose the longest Vertical face. This is because it improves the presentation of the object and because the longest face typically shows the most detail.

When we draw an Orthographic view of the top of an object it is called a PLAN.

When we draw an Orthographic view of one side of an object it is called an END ELEVATION. You always draw the end elevation that shows the most detail.
If an object is very complicated then you can draw an End Elevation of the left and right hand side. This will be discussed further when we are dealing with full Orthographic drawings.
