The Club focus is very much on dinghy sailing, with the occasional trip away on larger boats. For many existing and potential new members their interest in sailing covers both dinghy sailing and yacht sailing. The same principles for sailing a dinghy also apply to sailing larger yachts, so a lot can be learnt about large boat sailing by first starting with dinghy sailing. There are differences, but if this is your first stepping stone into the world of sailing, then it is safe to say that there are more similarities than differences between dinghy and yacht sailing.
So almost regardless of which type of sailing you may be interested in, the first and most practical step to take is to join a local sailing club. Membership with ULSSC provides an inexpensive relaxed and safe method of obtaining an introduction to the world of sailing while also including access to all the gear and dinghies required so you can test your own level of interest and love of the sport with a minimal investment. So next all you have to decide is which type of member you would like to become.
