The Spring Challenge has been organised by the UL Staff Sailing Club with the assistance of the UL Activity Centre and the Killaloe Sailing Club since 1998. The aim of the challenge is to provide an early welcome back onto the water to dinghy sailors from clubs in Ireland and abroad .

Over the years this event has grown in popularity and is a welcome addition to the landscape of the lake.

"If your looking for an event to challenge you ability to notice a change in wind direction then this is the event for you."

Below is a brief diary from an organisers perspective of the 2009 event.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Brief Diary of a UL Spring Challenge Event
This weekend event commences on Saturday morning, with registration between 9.00-10.00am, followed soon afterwards by a briefing from the OOD who will relate the details of the day aheadalong with the time for the first gun.
The first race maybe followed by a lunch break. The lunch break allows the race officer time to review the course and make any adjustments to the course both in length and its position relative to the wind. Hence insuring that it is possible to complete the remaining races, each within one hour. Off the water is usually 3-3:30pm.

Race results are compiled and the presentation of the trophy may take place at ULAC or at another venue nearby.

Volunteers

Each year we need 2-3 people with rescue boat cert's and another 4-5 people able bodied people to assist with on the water activities required for keeping the competitors and course in good condition . If you have sailed this event in the past or are active in other local sailing clubs please do contact the ULSSC committee, your assistance will be appreciated.
